Bogota : 10 things to do

  1. Andres Carne de Res Chia: great place to party and have some drinks. It is famous for its ambiance and typical colombian food and drinks. You will find a unique place full of workers dressed as characters, and things hanging from every corner, this is a must go.
  2. Museo del Oro: it is an amazing museum with the history and artefacts of the natives. There are lots of gold pieces and the famous piece from the legend of El Dorado
  3. Museo Botero: can be done the same day as Museo del Oro. Fernando Botero is the most famous sculptor and artist from Colombia. His pieces are found all over the world including Columbus Circle in New York, Barcelona, Singapur, Tokyo, and many more.
  4. La Candelaria: the city center is beautiful. Go to the Bolivar Plaza and walk the streets that surround it. When you walk around you'll find colonial buildings and colorful streets. It is beautiful and full of culture. You can also see the presidential house and beautiful cathedrals.
  5. Graffiti Tour: Bogotá is one of the few cities in the world were street art is not illegal. Because of this, many renowned artists go to Bogotá to decorate the walls. In this graffiti tour an australian artist will guide you to the amazing pieces that decorate the city walls. I really recommend this tour because you get to learn about the culture, art, and the social, political, and economical problems that Colombia has experienced.
  6. Ciclovia: Every sunday, certain streets in the city get closed and are used exclusively for bikes, skateboards, skates, jogging, etc. If you want to experience a morning as a local in the city you can walk in the ciclovia, or rent a bike to have a small tour through the city.
  7. Monserrate: amazing church in the top of the mountain with view of the city. You can go up walking or in a cable car. Has an amazing overview of the city and is a famous land mark.

  8. National Museum: this is the oldest museum in the country. Here you can learn about the country's history including pre-Colombian tribes, Fernando Botero, and many more. The building was originally a prison and you can still se some of the original cells.
  9. Laguna de Guatavita: a little far from the city, you can find the Guatavita Lagoon where the El Dorado Legend is said to have happened. It is a beautiful place full of culture and surrounded by nature. You can also walk around the small town in below Guatavita Lagoon.
  10. Zipaquira Salt Cathedral: also away from the city, you can get to this amazing salt cathedral. Located underground, it's walls are covered in salt that comes from the once-salt-mine.
